A discontinuous decatizing machine is used for the process of woollen fabrics in order to give stabilization as well as handle (or surface smoothness) to the worsted and woollen-blended fabrics. The process itself consists in a steaming cylinder (also called decatizing cylinder) onto which pieces of woollen fabrics are rolled up inside a wrapper (either satin or molton) and to put them together in a kier decatizing machine. Choosing a molton wrapper or a satin wrapper will depend on the requested effect for the woollen fabrics.

These machines are generally equipped with 2 steaming cylinders ; it enables the processed fabrics to be unrolled from one cylinder while the other wrapper is inside the kier decatizing machine for the finishing process. This is the reason why two satin wrappers are requested per machine.

Dollfus & Muller is supplying satin wrappers also called Decatizing satin with a standard width of 1.77 m at the requested lengthes (from about 180 m long for old and small machines to 1000 m, the length which is now requested by many new machines) ; this length is relevant to the diameter of the kier decatizing machine.

• the Nomex^® steam resistant needle punched underlayer which is rolled up directly onto the decatizing cylinder under the satin wrapper
• the conveyor belt which is used as outlet belt on the decatizing machine
